Scouts

We meet on Tuesday evenings, from 7.15pm till 9pm at Ferney lee School. Our leadership team currently consists of Matt (Section Leader) Emma, Tom and Martin (Ass Section Leaders)

The Scout section is for Young People aged 10 to 14. We have both boys and girls in our Troop, with up to 30 members. Scouts is all about encouraging and developing all our members in leadership, independence and teamwork, appropriate to their age and ability.

We run an active and varied programme, based around the six Programme Zones of Scoutcraft & Adventure, Global, Community, Fit for Life, Exploring Beliefs & Attitudes and Creative Expression.

What this means for our members is a fun combination of camping, hiking, water sports, climbing and abseiling, backwoods cooking, expeditions, games, cooking competitions, First Aid, charity events, orienteering, air rifle shooting, pioneering, archery, craft activities, incident hikes, wide games, Gang Show, Group socials - actually anything and everything we can think of as a Troop that fits into at least one of the Programme Zones!

By taking an active part in our balanced programme, you can complete 8 different Challenges. As well, there are 70 different Activity Badges (plus 4 Staged Activity Badges) you can earn - either within the Troop or by completing the requirements elsewhere (at home or school, for example).

By completing 5 of the Challenges, plus a three-part Personal Challenge, you can also earn the highest award in the Scout section - the Chief Scout’s Gold Award.

Scout badges and awards

There is a range of badges and awards available to young people in the Scout Section.

Activity badges

Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.

Challenge awards

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Troop or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Core badges

In addition, there are a number of core badges, obtained upon joining or moving on from the Troop, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.

Activity packs

Some activity badges are sponsored by outside companies, and these companies often provide extra exciting resource packs to help Scouts towards gaining their badges.
