 Beavers

We meet on Tuesday evenings, from 5.30pm till 6.30pm at Ferney lee School. Our leadership team currently consists of Rowena (Pebbles Section Leader) Laura and William (Young Leaders / Helpers) The Beaver Scout section is for Young People aged 6 to 8 years.

They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. We have both boys and girls in our Colony, with up to 20 members. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits helping others and taking part in the Todmorden Gang show.

We also organise an Annual Sleepover. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home so take place indoors in suitable buildings.

Beavers Scout motto is “Fun and Friends” and that’s just what we are about.

Beaver Scout badges and awards

There is a range of badges and awards available to young people in the Beaver Scout Section.

Activity badges

Many of the badges available are activity badges, which allow Beaver Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.

Challenge badges

Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of more ambitious tasks within the Colony or community. There are several challenge badges across a number of themes, from the physical and outdoorsy to challenges dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Core badges

In addition, there are a number of core badges, obtained upon joining or moving on from the Colony, or for time spent in the Scouting movement.

Activity packs

Some activity badges are sponsored by outside companies, and these companies often provide extra exciting resource packs to help Beaver Scouts towards gaining their badges.
